City Council Meeting Summary: May 4, 2021

Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio led the Pledge of Allegiance and asked for a moment of silence. All Councilors were present. Mayor Mastraccio reported that she and City Manager Steven Buck testified that morning in front of the State Legislature’s Taxation Committee in support of Councilor/Representative John Tuttle’s bill to eliminate the use tax that the City pays on the Pay-As-You-Throw trash bags. Covid-19 and Vaccination Update

There were 45 new cases of Covid-19 in Sanford and Springvale in the seven-day period ending May 2. The cumulative total of cases of the virus in our community now stands at 1,652. In the same period, there were 301 new cases of Covid-19 in all of York County. This is the second week in a row that new cases have declined. Cable TV Choice Coming to Sanford

Sanford and Springvale residents will soon have a second option for cable television service, if all goes as planned. At the City Council meeting on May 5, a public hearing was opened on the pending negotiation of a franchise agreement with Comcast. City Council Rules Changes Proposed and Debated

At its May 5 meeting, the City Council discussed proposed changes to its Rules and Order of Business, which governs procedures at meetings, appointments to committees, Councilor communications, and other items. The document was last updated in January. The proposed changes include: Section 2: Moving the adjournment time up from 10:00 p.m. to 9:30.
