The Hazen Carpenter Trail, a loop that circles Deering Pond, was dedicated on Thursday, July 1, with about 30 people in attendance. The Trail is the result of five years of work by members of the Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club and the Mousam Way Land Trust. Mr. Carpenter, a lifelong resident of Springvale, was also honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest recognition that Rotary International bestows. Midtown Mall Parking Lot Project Approved

After many months of delays and modifications, the planned improvements to the city-owned Midtown Mall parking lot were approved by the Planning Board on July 7. The project includes a new pedestrian walkway through the middle of the parking lot, to connect Main St. with the stairway to the lower mall area. Partners Bank CEO Blaine Boudreau sent an email to the Planning Board to express his approval of the project. The Bank will be contributing some paving materials for…

Arrests & Summonses: June 27-July 3

Out of twenty-four motor vehicle stops on Sunday, June 27, twenty-three resulted in written warnings, while one received a summons. On Monday, June 28, there were four summonses issued for motor vehicle stops. A domestic disturbance call that evening led to the arrest of a 40-year-old Sanford resident on charges of domestic violence assault and domestic violence terrorizing. Sanford Community Garden Awarded Walmart Grant

Sanford-Springvale Mousam Way Land Trust is happy to announce that it has been awarded a Walmart Community Grant Program Cybergrant from the Sanford store. This $1,000 grant will help to install a watering system for the Sanford Community Garden extension project, a project effectively doubling the number of the Garden’s raised beds to over 50.  The Garden, a part of the David and Linda Pence Community Ecology Center, is located within the 110 acre McKeon Environmental Reserve in Springvale.
