Mark your calendars, the Springvale Farm Walk is back! Three Rivers Land Trust and McDougal Orchards are excited to bring this popular event back to highlight and support a unique pocket of agriculture right here in Springvale. This year on Open Farm Day, Sunday, July 25 the walk will lead you to nine unique and beautiful farms, as well as the Sanford Community Garden.
Start off the day with a delicious farm-fresh breakfast at McDougal Orchards. They will be featuring some new menu items like sourdough waffles with local jam or maple butter, veggie flans, and local sausage. Breakfast will take place outside at picnic tables between 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. The cost is $10 per person. The silent auction will take place concurrently – please get your bids in by 10:00 a.m.
What silent auction you ask? Why, the “Paint the Working Landscape” silent auction of works by local artists! The first submission, a watercolor by David Parent, is pictured below. Proceeds from the auction will support the purchase of the land for the Sanford Community Forest.
After eating a great breakfast and placing your bids, it’ll be time to hit the trail! There will not be a shuttle this year, but the Walk will be split up into two loops, with parking in multiple locations. (See map at bottom.) One loop includes McDougal Orchards, Our Farm, Ferment Farm and Twin Maples. The other loop includes Rivard Farm, the Noon Family Farm, Two Toad Farm, Mousam Valley Mushrooms, Blueberry Bend, the Sanford Community Garden and Pence Ecology Center.
