School Committee April 5 Meeting Summary

Under public participation, Sanford High School Principal Matt Petermann thanked Sarah Schnell of WSSR-TV for her help in broadcasting a virtual state cheering competition. Read Dogs Help Kids at Willard School

The Read Dog program at Willard School began in January 2021 with six participants.  It now has nine students throughout the day, and all participants have shown an increase in their fluency and accuracy.  One student started in January at a reading level C and, by March, was performing with 98% accuracy at level E. City Council 4/6/2021 Meeting Summary

The meeting was called to order half an hour late because the Council was in executive session. Councilor Lucas Lanigan led the Pledge of Allegiance and asked for a moment of silence. Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio gave a brief update on her work with the Mayors Coalition. She has testified twice in the legislature about municipal revenue sharing. At the City Council meeting on April 6, Barbara Crider, Executive Director of York County Community Action Corp., gave a presentation on the agency’s pandemic operations and Sanford-specific resources. The agency has an annual payroll of $10 million and pays approximately $72,000 in property taxes to the City. 160 of the agency’s 220 full-time employees are based in Sanford.
