City Council 1/4 Meeting Summary

The Sanford City Council met January 4, 2022 via Zoom. With the exception of Councilor John Tuttle, who is recuperating from a hospital stay, all members were present. Councilor Jonathan Martell led the Pledge of Allegiance and asked for a moment of silence. This past week, the Sanford Police Department congratulated two of its longtime employees on their retirements. Officer Matt Johns served 23 years with the Department as a patrol officer and detective. Officer Chris Cyr also served as a patrol officer and detective during his 31 years on the Sanford force, and was one of the first bicycle officers as well. New Property Tax Deferral Program for Low-Income Seniors & Disabled

There is a new state program designed to help low income seniors and those with disabilities to stay in their homes. Under the Property Tax Deferral Program, if at least one of the homeowners will be 65 years of age or older on April 1 of this year, or unable to be employed by reason of disability, you may qualify to defer payment of the property taxes on your homestead if you meet certain financial guidelines.
