Fires In the almost five-week period covered by this report, there were a number of fires to which the Sanford Fire Department responded. In the early hours of December 3, a vehicle on fire on Main St. at Cabana's Auto Body brought five units out. On Sunday, December 26, Sanford Police responding to a shoplifting call on Main St. took a 23-year-old Springvale resident into custody on, an outstanding warrant. American Legion Oratorical Contest

On December 11, the Thomas W. Cole – Post #19 held the American Legion High School Oratorical Contest to determine the representative for the Post in the District #1 - Regional Contest. The contest, which has been held since 1938, focuses on various aspects of the US Constitution. Contestants each give an eight- to ten-minute speech on a topic of their choosing, followed by three- to five-minute speeches on an assigned topic. The Sanford High School Wrestling Team took 6th place out of 27 scoring teams at the Noble Invitational on December 28.  Kyle Nickerson placed 2nd, Luke Callis 3rd, James Blood 1st, and Mason VanGeison 4th in individual weight classes. Unfortunately, the Varsity Wrestling Invitation Tournament scheduled for January 8 in Sanford has been cancelled.
