Fires A fire in a home on Pleasant St. on September 26 was found to be caused by a towel smoldering on a light bulb. Five units responded with mutual aid for backup. No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced. Five units responded to a cooking fire on Elm St. on October 1. Mutual aid was also called in for backup on that call. In the two-week period ending September 25, the Sanford Fire Department responded to the following calls. Nine of the calls were for mutual aid to surrounding communities. While on a scene of a motor vehicle accident, Engine 2 was struck by another vehicle. No injuries resulted. Engine 2 is out of service until repairs can be completed (see photo below). Fires On Thursday, September 9, multiple units responded to a grease fire at the Springvale Publick House, 481 Main St. It was extinguished with minimal damage. The restaurant remained closed until the unit could be cleaned and inspected. Fires A car fire reported on August 29 was investigated and found to be smoking, but no fire was detected. Firefighters provided mutual aid on August 26, staffing the Biddeford Fire station while that department responded to a fire. There were no fires this week. Other Incidents Sanford firefighters responded to a small gasoline spill in a driveway, and an electrical wiring problem. The Department also dealt with two unpermitted outside fires. Two reports of smoke odor were investigated.
