Former State Legislature Candidate Indicted for Forgery

On December 5, 2022, the Maine Office of the Attorney General obtained a 15-count indictment against Matthew F. Toth of Sanford, for crimes allegedly committed in connection with his candidacy for the District 143 State Representative seat in the 2022 election. District 143 includes South Sanford and the west side south of Roberts St. In the indictment, Mr. Toth is charged with 13 counts of Aggravated Forgery, a class B felony. Voters Approve Bond Question and All Charter Review Amendments

In the election held November 8, 2022, Sanford and Springvale voters gave the thumbs-up to Question 1, a $1 million bond to be used for demolition, clean-up, and construction of a parking lot at the long-abandoned International Woolen Co. site in the millyard. Republican Matt Harrington will become Sanford's next State Senator following the election held Tuesday, November 8, 2022. While Democrat Kendra Williams had a slight edge in the Sanford/Springvale voting, District 33 also includes the towns of Alfred, Lebanon and Waterboro, which carried Mr. Harrington to victory with 54% of the total vote.
