Sanford Youth Volunteer Wins Award

Sanford High School junior Grace Davie was selected this week as one of Maine’s two top youth volunteers of 2021 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, America’s largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer service. As a state Honoree, Grace will receive a $2,500 scholarship, a silver medallion and an invitation to the program’s virtual national recognition celebration in April, where 10 of the 102 State Honorees will be named America’s top youth volunteers of the year.  Those…

School Notes

On Thursday night a small fire in the heating system at Margaret Chase Smith School resulted in school being cancelled on Friday. A built-in safety feature in the heating system shut off the flow of propane, putting the fire out quickly. The system has since been repaired. The Sanford School Department has an online survey for parents/guardians of students who are on the hybrid learning plan (currently attending school two days a week). Basketball takes no vacation! On Wednesday, February 17, the Boys First Team will play Biddeford at 10:00 a.m., Boys JV will play Noble at 11:30 and Boys Varsity will play Noble at 1:00 p.m. These are all home games which will be streamed on WSSR-TV's YouTube channel. Explore the Sanford Community Forest

Three Rivers Land Trust is hosting walks of the proposed Sanford Community Forest, with the first one scheduled for Sunday, February 14 (weather permitting). The other dates are March 14 and April 11. The trail is a little less than two miles and is expected to take no more than 2 hours to complete. For the February walk, snowshoes are recommended, but participants can also try using cross country skis or snow boots if desired. The walks are being led…
