Fires A fire in a home on Pleasant St. on September 26 was found to be caused by a towel smoldering on a light bulb. Five units responded with mutual aid for backup. No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced. Five units responded to a cooking fire on Elm St. on October 1. Mutual aid was also called in for backup on that call. On Sunday, September 26, Sanford Police responding to a medical emergency on Main St. summonsed a 43-year-old Sanford resident for criminal trespass. Monday, September 27, a motor vehicle stop on Main St. in Springvale led to a 52-year-old Acton resident being summonsed for speeding 30+ mph over the limit. Municipal Operations and Property Subcommittee Maintaining Private Roads: The Subcommittee discussed the use of municipal equipment and labor to maintain private roads, mostly for snow plowing, but in the case of some unpaved roads, for grading as well. The issue arose during a meeting between Public Works Director Matt Hill and representatives of the Maine Municipal Association, which is the City’s insurer. The Townhouse Solar Project on Hanson Ridge Rd., which has been reviewed twice by the Site Plan Review Committee and the Planning Board, was given conditional approval by both bodies last week.
