City Council 5/17 Meeting Summary

The Sanford City Council met via Zoom on May 17, 2022. All members were present. The meeting had originally been planned to be held in person, but the lack of air conditioning and ventilation in the Council Chambers resulted in the change to remote. The Council Chambers are on the third floor of City Hall, and the room has no windows. The cooling tower is awaiting replacement, which is expected to be done before the next meeting. Memorial Day Schedule at Southern ME Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery

Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery will hold its Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 30. Master of Ceremonies Dick Langlais will introduce Chaplain Rob Martin for the opening prayer at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The St. Thomas School choir will sing the National Anthem. Invited guests and Association members will be introduced. Memorial Day 2022 Activities Planned

The Sanford Veterans Memorial Committee has announced its schedule of Memorial Day activities for Monday, May 30, beginning with wreath laying ceremonies at cemeteries and other locations, and ending with a parade. Committee members will gather at the downtown Dunkin' Donuts at 6:45 a.m., and proceed by car to the following locations in this order, to lay wreaths. Sanford High School’s Top Ten Graduating Seniors

Sanford’s top ten graduating seniors were recognized at the Sanford Elks 50th Annual Youth Awards Banquet on May 4. They are: Isabella Farrington, Valedictorian, will attend Messiah University in the fall, majoring in politics and international relations, with a concentration in American politics. Isabella was also recognized as the Elks’ Student of the Year. Ella Hoenig, Salutatorian, plans to study biomedical engineering at Boston University.
