36th Annual Turkey Trot Winners

The Sanford Parks and Recreation Department's 36th Annual Turkey Trot Road Race (5K and 10K) was held Saturday, November 19, 2022, with the sun shining bright. A total of 29 runners came out for the event, from age 11 to 85 and a half. ATVs Banned From Most of the Sanford Rail Trail

Motorized vehicles, including ATVs, snowmobiles and dirt bikes, will no longer be allowed to use the Rail Trail from Pleasant St. to the Lebanon town line, following a 4-3 decision by the City Council at its meeting on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. That represents about 75% of the Rail Trail through Sanford and Springvale. The Council also voted unanimously to revisit the decision annually. “You Don’t Mess With Sanford”: Active Shooter Hoax Response Praised

On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 8:20 am, a call came in to the Sanford Regional Communications Center from someone claiming to be a teacher, reporting an active shooting at Sanford High School with five injured students. That call was eventually determined to be a hoax, but not until after students were evacuated to Veterans Memorial Gym, and first responders had searched the building. School News Notes: November 13, 2022

Sanford High School students are getting in the Thanksgiving spirit with their annual Peer Helpers food drive. Each class has been assigned a food item to collect (instant mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and gravy, canned vegetables or stuffing), and the class that collects the most items will win a movie in the Performing Arts Center.
