What did the Sanford Mainers do when their game was postponed Tuesday night due to rain? They went bowling at Bowl-a-Rama! Several of the players had never heard of candlepin bowling before, but they all had a great time. The game will be made up July 13 in a doubleheader at Goodall Park. School Budget Approved in Low Turnout

The Sanford School Department's budget for 2021-2022 was approved in a vote of 407-177 in Tuesday's referendum. Just 4% of Sanford's registered voters bothered to cast a ballot one way or the other. The 584 total votes includes 72 early/absentee votes. The breakdown of votes by ward is shown in the official tally pictured above.

Three Sanford Properties Declared Dangerous

At the City Council meeting on May 18, public hearings were held to determine if three properties in Sanford meet the requirements for the city to declare them dangerous buildings. The first property discussed was 18 Winter St., a duplex which has been vacant for many years. It has been owned by Bradley Estabrook of Laconia, NH, since 2004. School Department Already Planning for Fall

At the School Committee meeting on May 10, Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson gave the latest update on the plans for bringing all students back to school in-person, full time, in the fall. It was discussed extensively at the School Committee’s workshop last week, but plans are evolving daily. Mr. Nelson said that classrooms are full now, even though over 700 students district-wide are still doing fully remote instruction.
