American Legion Honors Marge Lewis

This past week, Springvale resident Marjorie Lewis was recognized on her 95th birthday with a ceremony dedicating the new pavilion at the American Legion T.W. Cole Post 19 in her honor. Mrs. Lewis’ children and grandchildren were present for the dedication. A certificate of appreciation for her many years of work with the American Legion Auxiliary was presented to her by Dale Midgley, Service Director at the Post. Catch Spring Fever at the Fair!

St. Thomas School's Annual Spring Fever Fair, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the School, 69 North Ave., has been postponed to Saturday, June 5 at St. Ignatius Gym due to weather. The fair will feature some great raffle items, a penny auction, crafts, games for the kids, and a yard sale that includes jewelry, books, children’s toys, household items, tools, and much more. Meet the Southern Maine Garden Club

New Rail Trail Task Force to be Appointed

Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio will be appointing a new task force to come up with a solution concerning the Rail Trail, which is the only part of Sanford’s official trail system that is open to ATVs. This section has been the subject of a long-standing dispute between the Sanford ATV Club and the Trails Committee. The Trails Committee cited complaints from trail abutters regarding dust and noise, ATV users who don’t follow posted rules, and environmental degradation caused by the vehicles…

ATVs on the Rail Trail Debated

Members of the City Council’s Municipal Operations and Property Subcommittee waded into the longstanding conflict between the Trails Committee and the Sanford ATV Club at their April 13 meeting, when they heard arguments from both sides about use of the Rail Trail. Unlike other Sanford trails, the Rail Trail is designated as multi-use, which allows for walkers, horseback riders, motorized and non-motorized vehicles.
