Fires On January 20, Engine 5 responded to an unattended fire in the woods off Emery St. January 24, Engine 1 was called to a grass fire on Blanchard Rd. in Springvale, which occurred near a utility pole where work was being done overhead. On Sunday, January 23, Sanford Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Charles St. During a motor vehicle stop later that day they arrested the suspect, a 31-year-old Sanford resident, on charges of domestic violence assault and violating condition of release. A disturbance on Bennett St. led to a 32-year old Sanford resident being taken into custody on a warrant. Monday, January 24, officers dealt with six motor vehicle accidents. Council Approves Purchase of Springvale Nurseries Property for Future Fire Station

At its meeting on February 1, 2022, the Sanford City Council voted 5-0 to approve the purchase of two properties, at 1274 and 1280 Main St. in South Sanford, for the purpose of building a new fire station. The purchase price of $585,000 is coming from federal American Rescue Plan Act funds, which were allocated by the Council at its January 18 meeting (see that story). Fire Department Log: January 1-15, 2022

Fires On January 15, Sanford firefighters provided mutual aid to the Lebanon Department, which was dealing with a structure fire. Carbon Monoxide Incidents On January 12, the SFD responded to a home that had elevated CO levels inside.  The homeowner had run a tractor in the garage and the exhaust infiltrated into the home.  Firefighters were able to ventilate the home and clear out the gas without incident. “The lesson to learn here is that it is best to move a…
