A Place of Honor

The Sanford Fire Department hosted representatives from the Maine Forest Service this week, at a special ceremony at the Springvale Station to honor the memory of Firefighter Corydon Goodwin, who lost his life fighting a fire off Twombley Rd. in 1953. The fire consumed 2,800 acres from Springvale to Wells. FF Goodwin was the first Maine firefighter to lose his life battling a wildland fire. The plaque will have a place of honor at the station. Parking Ordinance Changes Proposed

Changes Would Provide for Enforcement of Unpaid Tickets A proposal by the Sanford Police Department to provide an enforcement mechanism for unpaid parking tickets will go to the City Council for a public hearing next month. Currently, the Department can ticket people who park illegally, but if they don’t pay, there are no repercussions. Police Chief Craig Andersen said this is unfair to those who do pay their tickets. Smoke & Fires On March 17, seven units responded to a cooking fire on Whitcomb Ave., caused by someone boiling down maple syrup. The garage filled with smoke but the fire was confined to the container. Smoke was reported on Main St. on March 18, but was determined to be from an outside source.
