The Addams Family, that delightfully macabre clan from comics, television, and film, is coming to the Nasson Little Theatre in Springvale, and it promises to be a must-see production. Directed by George Perkins with musical direction by Karen Mathews, this charming musical comedy will run for two weekends only, starting July 19.

The Addams Family is a show that has been on our radar for a while,” says Dave Parent, the theatre’s Technical Director. “The recent success of the Wednesday series [streaming on Netflix] has definitely sparked interest, but this production is its own story.” Focusing on love and acceptance, the play tells the story of Wednesday Addams, who has fallen for a sweet, smart, “normal” boy named Lucas Beineke. When Lucas and his parents come to dinner, hilarious chaos ensues as Wednesday’s eccentric family clashes with their buttoned-up counterparts.

This production boasts a local cast of 22, along with a dedicated artistic team and crew of roughly 14. “We’re very lucky to have such a talented group of people involved,” says Dave. “Community theatre is all about collaboration, and the bonds we form during productions are truly special.”

The heart of The Addams Family lies in its quirky characters, and Nikki Muise, the show’s costume and makeup artist, promises to bring them to life in all their bizarre and spooky glory. The striking set design from Jeff Hartly takes a minimalist approach, relying on the actors’ performances to create the atmosphere. And audiences can expect some impressive projections and special effects designed by Dave himself, adding another layer of magic to the production.

“This isn’t just a dark comedy,” Dave clarifies. “It’s a story about love in all its forms, and the importance of accepting people for who they are. It’s a message that resonates with audiences of all ages.”

Tickets for The Addams Family are expected to sell out quickly, so theatergoers are encouraged to purchase them as soon as possible. Performances will be held July 19-21 and 26-28, with evening shows at 7:30 pm and a matinee on July 21 at 2:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased online https://nassonevents.ticketleap.com/ or by calling the Nasson Community Center at (207) 324-5657.

“We’re incredibly proud of this production,” says Dave. “The Nasson Little Theatre is a vital part of our community, and we’re dedicated to bringing high-quality, entertaining theatre to the local area. We can’t wait to share The Addams Family with you!”
