Sports Notes: March 5, 2023

Sanford High School athletes and coaches celebrated the conclusion of the winter sports season with a presentation at Sanford Performing Arts Center on March 2. A Go Fund Me has been set up to help send five members of the Sanford High School wrestling team to the National Tournament in Virginia Beach. This is not only one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country, it is also a showcase for college recruiters. Last year Sanford came home with two All-Americans. Congratulations to Pete Hegarty of the Maine Attraction Water Ski Show Team for winning Male Athlete of the Year and Jumper of the Year at The Ski Show Podcast Awards!

Seacoast Warhawks Football will be hosting their home opener, vs. rival East Coast Cardinals (Brockton, MA) at Alumni Stadium, with 7:00 pm kickoff on Saturday, April 8th. Tickets are $10 adults and $5 students/kids, or you can purchase season tickets for $30 per adult and $15 per student/kid. Get free Warhawks swag with every season ticket. The Warhawks were Independent Football Association Champions in 2022 and are looking to repeat this season! The IFA is a semipro football league with teams in New England and New York. Congratulations to SHS junior Tucker Walker who qualified for the New England Indoor Track Championships in Boston, and competed on March 4, achieving a score of 42 feet 8 inches in the shot put.
