Sports Notes: July 24, 2022

Sanford Babe Ruth’s 13-15 All-Stars, who are the Maine State Champs, are playing in the New England Regional Tournament in Keene, NH, this weekend. On Friday, they shut out the Rhode Island team with a score of 8-0, but on Saturday, suffered a tough loss to the Connecticut squad with a final score of 8-9. Tonight, they take on the New Hampshire team to determine the final standings. You can watch the game live at 7:00 p.m. here.


The Sanford-Springvale Little League 11U team came close to a State Championship of their own in their division, coming in second place to Yarmouth on Saturday. The future is very bright for all of Sanford’s baseball teams!

Pitchin’ Magicians: Sanford Mainers pitcher Brian Craven has won the NECBL North Division Fan Vote and will be joining six other members of the team at the 2022 All-Star Game in Martha’s Vineyard. Pitchers Brady and Bryce Afthim are two of the Mainers other All-Stars. They were profiled this week in the Portland Press Herald – read the story here. Congratulations to 2019 Sanford Mainers pitcher, Matt Pushard on signing with the Miami Marlins!


Come on down to Number One Pond on Thursday, July 28th at 6:30pm, and support the Maine Attraction Water Ski Show Team for their last show before they head to Eastern Regional Show Ski Competition in Massachusetts. They have been working hard and trying out new things! The competition will be in North Hampton, MA on July 30th & 31st.
