Sanford Mainers Surge into NECBL Playoffs After 11-Game Win Streak

The Sanford Mainers surged into the NECBL playoffs on the strength of a remarkable late-season run, winning 11 of their final 12 regular season games.

The team’s momentum was punctuated by an 11-game winning streak, which ended only in their regular-season finale against the Keene Swampbats, their first-round playoff opponent, at Alumni Field in New Hampshire on Tuesday, July 30.

Sanford finished with a 26-18 regular season record, its most wins since 2016.

The Mainers capped their winning streak with a rain-shortened 6-3 victory in six innings over the Vermont Mountaineers at Goodall Park on Monday, July 29. Daniel McAliney earned the win in relief, throwing three shutout innings while striking out two. Blake Schaaf put the Mainers ahead for good in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single, driving in Colin Barczi.

The Mainers play Keene in a best-of-three series with the opportunity to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
