Mainers rally to beat Keene SwampBats
Christopher Willis drove in Matt Miceli for the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh to help the Sanford Mainers beat the Keene SwampBats 3-2 in a NECBL game at Goodall Park on Monday, July 1. The Mainers trailed 2-1 heading into the inning but tied the game when Miceli singled home Corbin Lanowitz.
Sanford native TJ Curley pitched three scoreless innings to close the game, earning the win for the Mainers. Curley allowed only one walk and struck out four. Ryan Minckler started the game, throwing six innings while allowing two runs on three hits while striking out eight.
Sanford native’s Olympics quest
Sanford native Rachel Schneider Smith made her hometown proud once again when she competed in the 2024 USA Track and Field Olympic Trials held last week. She finished ninth in the 5000-meter finals. She dropped out of the women’s 10,000-meters with seven laps to go on Saturday. She was cheered on by her entire family who made the trip to see her compete one more time in what has been a very successful running career.
