SHS Wrestling Highlighted in Press Herald’s Season and Individual Previews

Sanford High School wrestling was named one of the five teams to watch in Southern Maine in the Press Herald’s season preview.

Additionally, junior Canton Hill was named one of the newspaper’s wrestlers to watch in Southern Maine for the 2023-2024 season.

Last year, Hill finished fourth in the 195-pound division at the Class A meet.

SHS Girls Basketball Responds With Strong Win After Season-Opening Loss

After suffering a season-opening loss to Thornton Academy (58-42), the SHS girls basketball team rebounded with a 65-45 win over Marshwood on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Sanford.

Julissa McBarron scored a game-high 20 points for the Spartans, while Paige Sevigny added 11.

SHS Boys Basketball Handles Marshwood

Makai Bougie paced a balanced scoring attack for the Spartans, who cruised to a 59-43 win over Marshwood on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in South Berwick.

Four Sanford players reached double digits in scoring. Bougie had 15, Tanner McCann added 14, Tyler Sevigny scored 11, and Brady Adams chipped in with ten as the Spartans raced out to a 23-11 halftime lead.

Sanford opened its season with a 69-50 loss to Thornton Academy.

SHS Junior Named to All-State Field Hockey Team

Sanford High School junior Audrey Payeur was recently named to the Press Herald’s All-State Field Hockey team.

Payeur finished with 16 goals and 19 assists while leading Sanford to a 8-6 record in the regular season to earn the No. 7 seed in the Class A South playoffs.
