Sanford High School Athletes Shine in Championship Competitions

SHS wrestlers heading to state championship
Sanford High School’s wrestling team finished third in its home gym at the Class A South Regional Championships on Saturday, February 10. Richie Simpson won the 175-pound title as the No. 4 seed. Canton Hill and James Chaplick each also earned their 100th career wins. The Spartans qualified eight wrestlers for the Class A State Championships.
SHS senior breaks own school record in shot put
Sanford High School senior Tucker Walker broke his own school record in the shot put at the SMAA Southwestern Championships in Gorham on Saturday, February 10. He threw 51 feet, 1 inch to finish second overall. It was the first time Walker has thrown over 50 feet in his career.
He now ranks fourth in the shot put event in the entire state heading into the Class A Championships.
SHS cheer team nabs 8th place at state competition
The Sanford High School cheering team finished 8th out of 16 teams at the Class A Cheering Competition on Saturday, February 10, in Augusta.
School Vacation Athletic Championship Competitions
The SHS Wrestlers headed to Cony High School on Saturday 2/17 to compete in the State Tournament at 10 am.
The Indoor Track team will compete in the State Championship meet at USM on Monday, 2/19 at noon.
Members of the SHS Wrestling Team will compete in the Girls Wrestling State Championship at Winslow High School at 10 am on Tuesday, 2/20.
The SHS Girls’ Basketball Team had a thrilling victory Thursday evening vs Thornton Academy 63-59. With this win, they advanced to the Semi-Finals at the Cross Insurance Center on Wednesday, February 21 at 8:45 pm vs Gorham High School.
