SRTC represented at the State House in Augusta: Matt Petermann, director of Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC), represented the school on Feb. 7 in the Hall of Flags at the State House in Augusta to kick off Maine’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. Representatives from 15 of Maine’s 27 CTE centers attended. Petermann met Sen. Matt Harrington, Rep. Anne-Marie Mastraccio and Rep. Heidi Sampson as well as several others who serve on the Education Committee. The Department of Education put on the event, which provided an opportunity for SRTC to show off the good work they have been doing with their students. Many see CTE as a building block to Maine’s economy, training younger workers to replace the state’s aging workforce.

A birthday party invitation like no other: Sanford High School’s band has been selected to represent the state of Maine in the “Semiquincentennial Salute to America” Independence Day Parade in Philadelphia on July 4, 2026. The parade will mark America’s 250th Birthday Celebration in the city where our nation began. Selecting a band from every state in the nation, the parade producer handpicked Sanford’s band to represent Maine. The Sanford High School band has performed at other high-profile parades, including President Obama’s 2009 Presidential Inauguration Parade in Washington DC and the 2007 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City. Incoming high school students in 2026 will be eligible to participate. In preparation for the trip, the band will be fundraising. Anyone interested in helping with fundraising efforts or in donating to the cause can contact Sanford Music Boosters at this link

SRTC Open House draws over 1,000 students: Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC) staff, along with current SRTC students as panelists, visited approximately 1,350 sophomores in various York County high schools to share information about SRTC. Over 500 prospective students attended the SRTC Open House held earlier in February, and almost 700 students visited and experienced three different programs of their choosing. Students interested in attending SRTC must complete the online application by March 1 to be considered for enrollment for the 2024-25 School Year.
