Get to know SHS’s Class of 2024 top 10 students: As reported in the Sanford Springvale News (May 24), the annual Youth Banquet was held at the Sanford Elks Lodge on May 8. Part of the ceremony recognized individually the top 10 Sanford High School (SHS) students. For an inspirational read into these students’ experiences at SHS and where they’re heading next, go here.

June 15 deadline for public comment on the use of school funding: The Sanford School Department accepts funding through the Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA) of 1965. As part of the ESEA, the department is required to provide a reasonable opportunity for public comment on the consolidated application and consider comments prior to the submission of the application. Public comment will be accepted through June 15. To view the proposed projects in the application, go here.

Give your child a head start in life: The enrollment period for York County Head Start and Early Head Start for the 2024-2025 school year has begun. Children ages six weeks to three years follow a full-day, year-round schedule. Pre-K ages (three to five years) follow a school-year schedule. FMI, go here.

Pomp and circumstance for SCA graduates: The kindergarten class at Sanford Christian Academy graduated on May 23. The following day, the school’s seniors participated in their graduation ceremony. Congratulations to all the graduates!

Keep the fun going all summer long: The Sanford School Department is excited to share a variety of engaging summer activities with families over June, July and August. JMG ceremony honors high school students’ hard work and successes: The accomplishments of Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG) students at Sanford High School (SHS) and Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC) took center stage at the Performing Arts Center on May 21. Friends, family, teachers and school administrators gathered to honor the hard work and successes of the JMG program participants during the annual Closing Ceremony for all grade levels. Multi-year JMG students were recognized with certificates honoring their participation and achievements. The graduating seniors were also given special recognition. A special feature of the event was a slideshow video created by Alissa Letourneau that recapped highlights and memorable moments from the JMG program throughout the school year. Juniors and seniors who completed their Career Exploration Badge, an opportunity to participate in 40 hours of meaningful work experiences, were also highlighted. The seniors recognized for their JMG program participation were Maddison Bouchard, Skylar Cabezal, Isabella Dale, Wyatt Flinkstrom, Caitlyn Goode, Zachary Jason, Connor Kingsbury, Emily Knight, Rylee Marr, Eric Norwald, Chloe Phinney, Mollie Poyner, Valerie Randall, William Reed and Reese Turner. Pitching in to benefit a local school: St. Thomas School’s annual Night at the Mainers will take place June 7 at 6:30 pm at Goodall Park in Sanford. This event is a fundraiser with 50% donated back to the school. Simply mention St. Thomas upon arrival. Tickets are $7 regardless of age. Students will have the opportunity to participate in games between innings with Brooce D’Moose and Boomer.
