Sanford High School’s Marching Band took home a Gold Medal for their performance at the Maine Band Director Association’s Finals on October 29, 2022, in Biddeford. The band’s production was entitled “We Are Spartans” and tied the traits of the ancient Spartan Warriors to the character of the City the band represents. Sanford’s proud Director of Bands, Hailey Francoeur, said that this is only the third time in the band’s history that it has achieved gold.
Composed of almost 50 students from both Sanford High and Middle Schools, and also Massabesic, Kennebunk and Noble High Schools, this year’s band represents some of the best of our region’s young people who have been working long, hard hours since August; pushing themselves to excel physically, mentally and musically to prepare for this moment.
Their efforts paid off with the appreciation of the audience, the event judges and even Sanford’s first responders, who surprised the students with a rousing, triumphal return to town including a police and fire escort down Main Street. The students and staff offer their sincere thanks to them for that wonderful memory and also, of course, their deepest appreciation to all the parents, family and friends who have supported them throughout the season.
