The Sanford Arts Commission began 2024 planning for new and continuing arts events in our city.
A newly formed subcommittee will help to create an Artist Cooperative at the Anderson Learning Center. Any artists or healing arts practitioners who are interested in studio, office or co-working space for themselves or to help with this ground-level effort to establish a center for arts activity and work should contact Sarah Daigle, subcommittee chair at sarah@supernovaenergetics.com.
Terry Jellerson is looking to develop a regular arts event called Art in Gateway Park with food vendors starting this spring. The event can include visual arts, music, theater, and dance, all accompanied by delicious food from local vendors. Email Terry at TerryJellerson@yahoo.com if you are interested in helping him with this project.
The Sanford Arts Commission will co-produce a completely new performance event, “Couch to Mic.” Based upon the concept of NPR’s “Moth Radio Hour,” the show will featuresix participants working with Stephanie Lazenby, facilitator and coach, in a four-weeknight workshop. They will write, develop, rehearse and polish their original short comedy presentations for a live performance at the Nasson Little Theatre on Thursday evening, April 4. Consider becoming one of the performers or just get off your couch and attend a performance that is sure to be inspiring and entertaining. More information about “Couch to Mic”can be found at https://nassoncommunitycenter.com/theatre.
Evelyn Nitzberg is working on rotating art hangings, best described as mini galleries, around Sanford. Current locations include the Sanford Performing Arts Center, Nasson Little Theatre, the Economic Growth Council, and the Sanford Water District. Participating entities provide an area where art can be hung and displayed and an acceptable hanging system to hang the art from. The display should be in an area where the public can view the art. If you are interested in hosting art from local area artists at your business, please contact Evelyn at evelynnitzbergart1@gmail.com.
Sanford Art Walks will continue in 2024. For a schedule and complete listing of activities and events, please visit the events calendar on the Sanford Arts Commission webpage.or contact evelynnitzbergart1@gmail.com
