Clark Avenue and Camp Street
By Kendra Williams
At its July 17 meeting the Sanford Planning Board unanimously approved a proposed expansion of the Sanford Industrial Trades Learning Center at 60 Community Drive. The new addition will include welding labs, classrooms and office space.
On July 2, the Site Plan Review Committee considered an application by RED LLC for an amendment to a major subdivision and private way that was created in 1922, to change 22 lots to five larger lots for single family homes. Both Clarke Avenue and Camp Street are paper streets – streets that are planned but not developed – and portions have been used by residents on Boothby Avenue. The SPRC raised the question of whether current residents would be required to join the homeowners’ association and contribute to the maintenance and plowing of new streets. The Fire Department would want adequate access for emergency vehicles. It was noted that the rear portion of the lots has a dramatic drop-off. The Planning Board expressed the same concerns at its subsequent meeting and also considered a sidewalk waiver. Prior to approval, the applicant will need to present proposed changes to both boards.
Also at its July meeting, the SPRC granted three waivers for driveways less than 50 feet from neighbors to JP Construction for a vacant lot on the corner of June and Thompson Streets, the property of Cassandra & Andre Provencher on Integrity Drive, and Pine Tree Properties at 8 Harrison St.
