People Around Town: 8/26

Sanford resident Ella Davie has begun classes in The Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, Washington DC. She is studying international relations with a foreign language focus in Mandarin. Ella is a 2021 graduate of Cheverus High School and is the daughter of Wes and Jen Davie, and the granddaughter of Ron and Janet Paquin.


Becky Barnett, Gail Bodge and Emily Door at the Trafton Center’s Stepping Out For Seniors walk on August 21. Over $5,000 was raised to support the Trafton’s programs.

Mary Hastings is the new Small Business Advocate working with the Sanford Regional Economic Growth Council. In her new role, Mary will focus on supporting small business growth by providing in-depth, confidential, no-cost business assistance to Sanford’s small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. She will work with businesses as a subject-matter expert and confidant to facilitate economic development through the timely processing of all projects. She’s not new to the Growth Council, having worked for the past two years as Assistant to the Executive Director. Prior to that, Mary operated a family resort destination facility for thirteen years which provided her with significant hands-on experience across a number of disciplines including customer service, project management, and business permitting.  She has held a Maine Real Estate Broker’s license and owned a real estate brokerage company and a property management company.


The whole Cote clan was on hand August 22 for the official naming of the tennis courts at Sanford High School in honor of Roland Cote.

Jessica Jourdain and her crew of volunteers, including William Lynch, Nicole, Lisa, Kelly, Audree, Tonya, Sherri & Tom (official hedge trimmer) and Joseph worked Friday night & Saturday morning last week to clean up and renew the plantings at Sanford Middle School. Mums were donated by Deanna at Springvale Village Carwash, Melissa, and another anonymous donor. The transformation is amazing!
