Charles Edward Martin, Rowland Mester Bryant

Charles Edward Martin, Sr., 80, of Sanford, passed away at his home on February 26, 2024 following a period of failing health. Charles was born in Everett, MA on August 17, 1943, to James and Sadie (Worth) Martin and attended local schools. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served three tours in Vietnam as a Seabee. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked at Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut before embarking on a career in long-haul truck-driving. After retirement from trucking, he worked for many years doing logistics for Stop & Shop in Massachusetts and Lily Transportation. He loved to take road trips with his wife Pauline and spending winters in Florida. Charles was predeceased by his parents, James and Sadie; his daughter, Christina; his son, Charles “Chuck” Jr.; and his brother, Jim. He is survived by his wife Pauline of 30 years, his daughter, Charlene; his stepdaughter, Dianne Rocray his stepsons, Edward and Ray Leskowsky and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Rowland Mester Bryant, 77 died on Sunday, February 25th at his home in Sanford where he had resided since May 2019. Rowland, the youngest of three children, was born in Woodbury City, NJ on December 16, 1946, to the late Charles and Mary (Fisher). A graduate of Paulsboro High School Class of 1965, he would go on to earn an associates in computers in 1967 and a bachelor’s in electrical engineering in 1986. He married the former Sally Perry, on September 25, 1973, with whom he had a wonderful life. With her by his side, they raised a family, ran the Inn, had an antiques shop, and saw many memorable concerts. He worked many jobs ranging from managing refit installation and testing packages for Trident submarines in Newport, RI. owning and operating Inns in Sunderland, VT and Cambridge, NY and he kept busy in his later years working at Home Depot, Lowes, and Kohls. He would marry his second wife Sandra Cole, who survives him, on August 24, 2019 at their home in Sanford. He enjoyed painting watercolors of local barns, old schoolhouses, antique railroad stations and whatever else caught his eye. He was a woodworker and loved cooking. He was always ready to try something new he saw online. His sense of humor was larger than life and he could always find a way to make you smile, laugh or groan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Todd (Brandi) in Radcliff, KY; 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a stepson, Shawn (Jennifer) Conway in Red Hook, NY; a brother, Charles (Janet) Bryant in Voorhees, NJ; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
