The City Council's first meeting of the new year was devoted to a number of administrative matters, in addition to other business. Board and Committee Appointments

The City Council approved the appointments listed below for city boards and committees at its January 5 meeting. There was considerable discussion about the Planning Board and Budget Committee appointments. Councilor Luke Lanigan voted against the reappointment of Dianne Connolly to the Planning Board, but all others were approved unanimously. Applications are still being accepted for vacant positions. Covid-19 Data & Vaccine Update

Cases of Covid-19 in our community continue to increase at a rapid pace. With data as of January 3, there have now been a cumulative 596 cases of the virus in Sanford, and 137 in Springvale, for a total of 733. This represents an increase of 124 new cases in our community, breaking last week's record of 94 cases. School Naming Process Debated

At the School Committee’s January 4 meeting, the process for giving a permanent name to the Converted Elementary School (formerly the Junior High School) was discussed. The school is currently undergoing renovations, scheduled for completion this summer.
