Sanford and Springvale saw a significant drop in new Covid-19 cases this week, with 16 in Sanford and 3 in Springvale, for a total of 19 cases in our community. Last week there were 57 new cases. Our cumulative total of Covid cases is 1,263 since the pandemic began almost a year ago (1,013 in Sanford and 250 in Springvale). The Sanford School District Needs You!

The Sanford School Department is looking into bringing kids back to school four days per week, but the biggest barrier to this happening is staffing, especially the need for substitute teachers who can step in when a teacher is out or has to quarantine after Covid exposure. Despite what you may think, it’s not necessary to have a college degree to be a substitute teacher. A high school diploma or GED, and a love of kids are the primary requirements.…

School Committee Meeting Summary: February 22, 2021

School Committee Member Jonathan Mapes apologized for comments he made at the February 8 meeting with regard to getting kids back in school more days per week. “My comment was unacceptable, for that I offer a genuine apology,” he said. Subcommittee Reports: February 23, 2021

Four City Council Subcommittees met on Tuesday, February 23. This is a brief summary of some of the items discussed at each. Municipal Operations and Property Public Works Director Matt Hill gave an update on the department’s Fleet Management and Vehicle Replacement Programs.
