SHS & SMS Students Report Substance Use in Biennial Study

At their regular meeting on December 7, members of the Sanford School Committee heard a report on some of the results of the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) for 2019. This biennial survey of middle and high school students across the state is conducted in odd-numbered years. On Thursday, December 3, fifth graders at Sanford Middle School were out enjoying their new playground equipment. Students collaborated with staff to develop recess rules to keep everyone safe when on the equipment. The Trafton Center is partnering with the Sanford-Springvale Altrusa Club to provide a drop off spot for Sanford Vet Center's Point in Time donations. Bring Christmas Joy to Homeless Pets

Loyal Companion at Shaw’s Plaza in South Sanford is hosting a Dog Toy Drive for Fetching Hope Rescue through December 18. You can donate a new, unwrapped dog toy there to brighten the life of a rescue dog. Fetching Hope Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all-volunteer canine rescue group whose mission is to save the lives of neglected, abused and/or stray dogs by finding them safe, loving, and permanent homes in New England. Former Christian School Proposed To Return to Residential Use

A proposal to turn the building located at 62 High Street, former site of Sanford Christian Academy, into 9 rental apartments was reviewed last week by the Site Plan Review Committee and the Planning Board. Small Blue Penguin, LLC, has an option to purchase the property, which is owned by the Calvary Baptist Church. Much of the discussion at both meetings revolved around parking and pedestrian safety.
