Never Alone: Sanford Veteran Laid To Rest

When Sanford resident Richard Burgess passed away in April, it was discovered that he had no family to bury him. But, as a U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Burgess had an extended family of veterans and supporters ready and willing to step in to give him a proper sendoff. American Legion Honors Marge Lewis

This past week, Springvale resident Marjorie Lewis was recognized on her 95th birthday with a ceremony dedicating the new pavilion at the American Legion T.W. Cole Post 19 in her honor. Mrs. Lewis’ children and grandchildren were present for the dedication. A certificate of appreciation for her many years of work with the American Legion Auxiliary was presented to her by Dale Midgley, Service Director at the Post. City Council 6/15 Meeting Summary

All Councilors were present except John Tuttle, who was in Augusta with the state Legislature. Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio led the Pledge of Allegiance and asked for a moment of silence in memory of Richard Burgess and his wife Ida, who were being buried at the Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday.
