Independence Day Festivities

Although there will be no 4th of July parade this year due to Covid, plans are in place for Independence Day festivities at Number One Pond on Saturday, July 3. The Maine Attraction Water Ski Team will put on a show at 6:00 p.m., and there will be an hour-long fireworks display beginning at dusk. What did the Sanford Mainers do when their game was postponed Tuesday night due to rain? They went bowling at Bowl-a-Rama! Outdoors and Along the Trails: Dedication, Videos, Turtles, SCF & More

On Thursday July 1 at 7:30 a.m., the Hazen Carpenter Trail, which circles Deering Pond, will be dedicated. It is a joint project of the Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club and the Mousam Way Land Trust. Meet at the Rail trail entrance on Hanson’s Ridge Road. There will be a few remarks to honor Mr. Carpenter, and then those who are interested can walk the trail, which takes about 45 minutes. Library Corner: Mask Free, Fine Free & New Books at Goodall

Goodall Library is now fine-free forever! For the past year of the pandemic, the Library suspended late fees. To thank patrons and best serve the community, they will never charge a late fee again. Goodall Library is also mask-free now too, although masks are still encouraged inside for unvaccinated individuals. The Sanford School Committee met Monday, June 21 at the High School, with staff members joining the meeting remotely. Vice Chair Paula Cote chaired the meeting in the absence of Don Jamison.
