In the early hours of Sunday, July 25, a Sanford Police officer on patrol at the intersection of Maine and Lenox Sts. summonsed a 20-year-old Sanford resident for violating condition of release. Meanwhile, another officer was responding to a report of an assault on Pioneer Ave. A 22-year-old Sanford resident was arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault. Return to School Plan Approved w/Masks Required

At its summer meeting on August 11, the Sanford School Committee voted 3-2 to approve the School Department’s Safe Return to School and Continuity of Instruction Plan. Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson presented the Plan, which outlines the steps the Department is taking to bring all students back to school full time this fall, while maintaining safety precautions to keep Covid-19 transmission as low as possible. Subcommittee Reports

Four of the City Council’s Subcommittees met via Zoom on Tuesday, August 8. Here is a summary of what was discussed at each meeting. Municipal Operations and Property Road paving: Public Works Director Matt Hill updated the Subcommittee on the Capital Improvements Plan. SPD’s New Mental Health Unit Already Making an Impact

The Sanford Police Department’s new Mental Health Unit is being developed to respond to people in crisis situations. The Unit is comprised of Detective Colleen Adams, who is the Department’s new Community Outreach Coordinator, and York County’s OPTIONS  clinician Carly Flagg. (OPTIONS stands for Overdose Prevention Through Intensive Outreach Naloxone and Safety.) Fire Department Log: July 25 – August 7

Fires On July 26, there was a fire, which was kept small and contained by the automatic sprinkler system, at a Main St. facility. The alarm system alerted 911 of a problem and the Department responded with multiple units.  There was water damage from the sprinklers, but the fire damage was kept to a minimum due to its limited growth and spread before firefighters arrived and extinguished it.
