Calls for Service: In May, the Sanford Police Department addressed a total of 3,477 calls for service, involving various incidents. These included 191 instances of 911 hang-ups, 53 reported thefts, and 34 domestic disturbances. The Mental Health Unit (MHU), a crucial department component, responded to 111 calls throughout the month. Within this figure, there were 52 calls specifically related to mental health concerns. Fire Department Update

This past week Calls for Service: In May, the Sanford Fire Department received 386 service calls. Among these, there were 14 fire-related calls, including 4 building fires and 4 forest/wildland fires. The majority of calls were EMS-related, with the fire department responding to 255 incidents excluding vehicle accidents with injuries. Nancy Hathaway Hunt Herron 1941-2023

Nancy Hathaway Hunt Herron passed away on June 6, 2023. She was 82. Nancy was born May 21, 1941, in Sanford, Maine to Elizabeth C. MacKay Hunt and Dr. John W. Hunt Sr. From an early age, family was always the main focus of Nancy's life. Waypoint Tele-Fest – (Waban Telethon)

Way to go: The Waypoint Tele-Fest, formerly known as the Waban Telethon, brought fun and fundraising to the Waypoint campus on Route 4 on May 20. This year's event was the 56th in the history of the agency, which serves children and adults with special needs. Major sponsors included Kennebunk Savings Bank, HM Payson and Central Furniture. More than 150 people attended. 

Sanford Rail Trail History

A transportation corridor evolves from railroad to multipurpose trail to linear park  Once upon a time, there was a railroad connecting Sanford and Rochester, New Hampshire. It was started around 1870 and was called the Portland and Rochester Railroad Company. It carried both passengers and freight.
