New Mainers moved to St. Ignatius Gym 

The former St. Ignatius Gym became a “temporary housing placement” for dozens of asylum-seeking families this past week.  Some 28 families from Haiti, Angola and Congo DRC were forced to vacate motels where they have been living for the past month because housing vouchers expired. School Budget Approved   A small cohort of voters approved a $61 million school budget Tuesday by an 80-20 percent margin, according to Sue H. Cote, City Clerk and Registrar of Voters. The turnout of 488 voters represented just 3 percent of the registered voters in the city, according to Ms. Cote. Police Department Update

Calls for Service: In May, the Sanford Police Department addressed a total of 3,477 calls for service, involving various incidents. These included 191 instances of 911 hang-ups, 53 reported thefts, and 34 domestic disturbances. The Mental Health Unit (MHU), a crucial department component, responded to 111 calls throughout the month. Within this figure, there were 52 calls specifically related to mental health concerns. Fire Department Update

This past week Calls for Service: In May, the Sanford Fire Department received 386 service calls. Among these, there were 14 fire-related calls, including 4 building fires and 4 forest/wildland fires. The majority of calls were EMS-related, with the fire department responding to 255 incidents excluding vehicle accidents with injuries.
