Dakota “Cody” James Markham, 18, died in a motor vehicle accident on May 20, 2022 in Sedgwick. He was born December 5, 2003, in York, the son of Sarah Belmore and Matthew Markham.
Cody would have been a graduate of the Ellsworth High School Class of 2022. He intended to attend Southern Maine Community College in the Fall.
Cody worked in the food service industry and was considering a life as a chef. He began at Acadia House Provisions in Stonington as a dishwasher. Under the guidance of Chef Ryan McCaskey, Cody found a passion for the art of food and would proudly bring home the dishes he was learning to make. He was particularly proud of learning how to make Crab Rangoon. Cody next joined Blaze, Blue Hill and worked his way up to a cook position. As Pizza Chef, Cody created many masterpieces with this same dedication to his craft.
Cody loved music, cars, hats, shoes, his friends, partner, and siblings more than anything in this world. He was the best brother anyone could ask for. He spent the last year of his life making sure that he was an example for his sisters, proving no matter what the circumstances, you can be successful – just like his big sister, Cassandra did for him.
Cody is survived by many who will all miss his one-of-a-kind presence and hold his memory dear. His love and partner Alexis Osborne of Sanford; His best friend and “brother from another mother” Christian Tijinero of Berwick; longtime friend Sebastiano Policastro of Dixfield. Siblings Cassandra Belmore (Matthew) of Sanford; Marissa Markham of Sanford; Megan Markham of Alfred; Makayla and Nevaeh Markham of Veazie; Crystal Draper of Ellsworth; Amber-Rae, Joshua, Jennifer, Rocky, Aaliyah, Jovin, Jordis and Ryker Pesek all of Sedgwick. His nieces, Bayleigh & Esme; Paternal Aunt Sandra Pirini, Grandparents; Robert and Christine Gould of Carolina Shores, NC; Forrest and Colleen Dow of Sedgwick; and parents Nicholas and Ashley Pesek of Sedgwick. Cody is predeceased by his paternal grandparents.
Gifts in Cody’s memory can be made to Community Compass, PO Box 552, Blue Hill ME 04614 for a Scholarship that will be created in his memory.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Walker’s Pond in Sedgwick at noon on June 5th, 2022.
Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
