Haunted Woods at Gowen Park: Get ready to get scared… Students from the Sanford Middle School’s JMG program will be putting on a Haunted Woods event at Gowen Park on Thursday, October 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The last group enters at 7:40 pm.  Rain date is October 28. Admission $5 per person.  Not recommended for young children.


Governor’s Visit: Governor Janet Mills toured downtown Sanford and met with business leaders and local officials this week, including Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio, City Manager Steven Buck and Public Works Director Matt Hill. Gov. Mills highlighted a new $34 million partnership between the City of Sanford and the Maine Department of Transportation that will revitalize the city’s downtown.

Veteran Laid to Rest: Joseph Paquette, an 85-year-old Air Force veteran from Lewiston, passed away at the Veterans home in Scarborough recently. On Thursday October 13, he was laid to rest at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale. With no family to mourn him, local veterans’ groups put out the word and many people came to pay their respects, including members of the Sanford Police Department and York County Sheriff’s Department.


Boxes of Joy: Volunteers with the Sanford Backpack Program have been distributing Boxes of Joy this week to be filled with holiday treats and everyday essentials by sponsors. If you would like to help local families in need this holiday season, there is still time to become a sponsor. Email sbp@strongersanford.org and they will get you a box to fill.

New Link to Report Crime: With the changes to the City’s website, the Sanford Police Department has a new link to its online reporting system. The new webpage is https://www.sanfordmaine.org/departments/police/create_a_report_online.php. The online reporting system may be used if:

  • The incident is not an emergency (if it is, call 911)
  • The incident occurred within Sanford or Springvale
  • There are NO KNOWN suspects
