News Notes: November 6, 2021

There’s lots going on at the YMCA Trafton Center. This week they had some great live music from Ken & Mo, made soup in their interactive co-op class (pictured above), and kicked off their annual pie fundraiser. You can order an apple, blueberry or pumpkin pie for just $15 each. Orders accepted through November 18th and will be ready for pick up on November 24 between 12 and 3 PM. Call the Trafton Center at (207) 457-0080 to order your pie today.

The Sanford Farmers’ Market will wrap up another successful season with their Thanksgiving Market on November 20 in Central Park. Get all the fresh, local goodies you need for your Thanksgiving table.

Scouts BSA Troop 327 will be hold its first annual Holiday Shopping Bazaar on Saturday, December 11 at St. Ignatius Gym. 45+ local crafters, artisans & direct buy consultants will set up their shops for you to enjoy local last minute holiday shopping. The Sanford Art Association will hold its last membership meeting of the season on November 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Goodall Library. In addition to preparing for 2022, the agenda will include discussion about participating in the Holly Daze festivities on December 3.

Congratulations to 2009 Sanford Mainer, Adam Duvall on winning the 2021 World Series as one of the Atlanta Braves! Duvall becomes the fourth Mainer to appear in a World Series [Jason Motte (‘02), St. Louis – 2011; Andy Sonnanstine (‘02 & ‘03), Tampa Bay – 2008; and Joey Wendle (‘10), Tampa Bay – 2020] and joins Motte as the second to take home a ring.

Sanford Maine Stage is still looking for more Carolers/Greek Chorus for their upcoming Christmas show, “Scrooge With A Twist”. Show dates are: December 4, 11 @ 7PM & Sunday, December 5, 12 @ 2: 30 PM. Email Mary at marya.troopstair@gmail.com and get in on the fun of a live production!

Nancy Caperton, RN has been named Southern Maine Health Care’s 2021 Caregiver of the Year. During a challenging year in health care, Nancy has shined as she selflessly helped whenever and wherever needed with a positive attitude and an unwavering dedication to compassionate, patient-centered care. Nancy, a resident of North Waterboro, has worked at various SMHC locations, including the Newton Center in Sanford as well as at the SMHC vaccine clinics here.

Stop by the Oldtimers’ Shop at 917 Main St. and get your tickets for their Cozy and Bright Raffle. There are two prize packages, and each one includes a lovely assortment of handmade items to cheer your holiday home or give as gifts. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Drawings will be held December 11.
