All City offices and both Libraries will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 25 and 26 for Thanksgiving. The Transfer Station will be closed on Thursday but open on Friday. Thursday’s trash and recycling will be picked up on Friday, and Friday’s trash and recycling on Saturday.
Sign up now for Spartan Youth Wrestling’s Dodgeball Tournament Fundraiser which will be held Saturday, December 11. Pre-registration is $60 per coed team of six players. You can also register the day of the Tournament for $75. There are two divisions, age 12 and under, and 13+. All players under 18 must have parent or guardian sign a waiver. Masks will be required. The winning 12 and under team will get a $150 Smitty’s gift card, and the 13+ team will win a $300 Smitty’s gift card. The Tournament will be held at the Nasson Community Center Gym.

York County Shelter Programs would appreciate donations of turkeys for the Thanksgiving boxes they will be distributing next week from the Food Pantry. Patrons will be coming by on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to pick up their boxes, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you can help, please contact Food Pantry Coordinator Mike Ouellette at (207 391-3125 or email him at mikeo@ycspi.org.
The Shaker Hill Bakery in Alfred will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for your holiday pies. They will have apple, blueberry, pumpkin, chocolate cream, lemon, lemon meringue, coconut cream, apple cranberry and strawberry rhubarb for $17 each, and pecan for $19. The Sanford Fire Department will hold its 14th Annual Food Drive Friday and Saturday, December 3 and 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hannaford, Shaw’s Supermarket and Walmart. The groceries and money collected will benefit the Sanford Food Pantry. This drive is especially important to provide fresh, in-date food for the Sanford residents who use the Food Pantry. The monetary donations will enable the Pantry to purchase more expensive items like canned meats that are not usually donated, and enable them to buy in bulk as well.
On Sunday, December 5, the First Baptist Church of Springvale will return to having one morning service at 10:00 a.m. Masked and unmasked worshippers will all be welcome. The service will continue to be available online as well.
