News Notes: November 12

The Springvale Bureau of Motor Vehicles office will reopen on Monday, November 23. Hours of operation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with phone lines open from 8:30 to 4:30. Please note that is Thanksgiving week, so the office will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the holiday. There will be two additional staff members at the office to help with the backlog of transactions.

Sanford Regional Technical Center’s Fire Science program has donated firefighting equipment valued at $30,000-$40,000 to Tri-County Technical Center in Dexter, Maine, for a new program at that school. A large portion of the firefighting equipment at SRTC came from Fire Departments that were upgrading to newer, more modern equipment, and the donated pieces were excess. None of the equipment passed forward was purchased by the School Department.

Jessicaa Antoine is picking up your leftover pumpkins to donate to the animals being rehabilitated at the Saco River Wildlife Center. She’ll be at the Sanford Family Dollar store at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and at Applebee’s at 10:30 if you have pumpkins to donate.

Higher Calling Main Chapter is sponsoring a turkey raffle food drive. Bring a nonperishable food item to Venom Ink, S3 Weaponworks or Gold Rush Pawn, and receive a raffle ticket to win a turkey and stuffing, drawn November 20. All food collected will be donated to the Sanford Community Food Pantry.

Sanford/Springvale Parks and Recreation is offering deep discounts for lift tickets at Shawnee Peak during the month of January 2021.  Shawnee Peak has great terrain for skiing and boarding for all skill levels.  Rentals and lessons are available at extra cost.  More info and registration links here.
