The Trafton Center’s Brush Strokes art group has put together a wonderful art exhibit with all proceeds benefiting the people of Ukraine. Stop by Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to see their work and purchase some original pieces. The Trafton Center is located at 19 Elm St., next door to the Sanford Elks Lodge.

The 8 gallon PAYT bags are expected to be back in stock at local stores this week.

The Maine Department of Education (MDOE) recently announced an end to the State’s pooled testing program.  As an alternative to pooled testing, the MDOE and Maine CDC are recommending frequent rapid testing.  To assist with this, the MDOE is providing up to six rapid tests for each student and staff  member across the state. These will be distributed beginning on Monday, May 23rd.  To see the distribution dates and times for your school, please click here for a link.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.

Calling All Crafters and Vendors: Sanford Soccer is holding a Crafter Vendor fair to help with the cost of field and facility maintenance for Shaw Field on June 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the field, 137 Shaw Rd. They will also be holding in-person Fall 2022 Soccer registration and uniform sizing that day from 9:00 to 2:00.

The Springvale Fish and Game Club will be hosting a free Fishing Derby for kids under age 13 on Sunday, June 5, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Roberts Pond off Gebung Woods Rd. in Alfred. Trophies and prizes will be awarded, and there will be free hot dogs, soda and snacks for all. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring your own fishing rod and bait, club members will be available for assistance. Rain date is June 13.

Naming rights for Sanford Regional Technical Center’s Culinary Arts Café are still on the table! This community cafe serves up an impressive breakfast and lunch to the public as a real-world experience for the students; this is the last week of service, but they’ll be back at it next fall. Correction: We reported last week that the newly reapportioned State Senate District 33 no longer includes Waterboro. That was incorrect. Waterboro is still in District 33.
