Kids, check out Sanford Parks and Recreation’s Parks Passport Program! Youth have a chance to win prizes by participating in this event. Get a copy of the “Parks Passport” and, beginning on May 28, visit the listed locations at the designated parks. At each park you will find stickers that need to be attached to your passport. Once you have visited all locations and have a sticker from each, submit your entry to Sanford Parks and Recreation by June 28. Get your Passport at https://sanfordrec.com/documents/parks_passport_program_2021.pdf, or pick one up at the Rec office along with a new Sanford Trails map.
York County Shelter Programs is asking if anyone has outdoor items they could donate to YCSP’s Family Shelter in Sanford. They would love to have a picnic table, and their swing set is in need of replacement. If you have a slide, a badminton set, baseball gloves, or anything that the children and parents in residence could use in the shelter’s backyard, please contact Family Housing Coordinator Kelly DeMattia at kellyd@ycspi.org or (207) 636-5527.
Opening weekend on Sanford’s ATV trails turned out to be a an eventful one, and not in a good way. A trail rider allegedly drinking and lighting fireworks on the trail off Pleasant St. in Springvale caused a brush fire, which is reportedly under investigation by the Fire Marshal as well as the Police Department and the Warden Service. According to a post on the ATV Club’s Facebook page, landowners in that area are considering shutting down trails because of the fire. Another landowner on High St. has since closed access across his property due to irresponsible and destructive behavior by riders. The Sanford ATV Club asks that everyone respect this landowner’s wishes, and if you know of another property owner on High St. who might be willing to provide access to the trail, please let the Club officers know.

Do you love mother cats and kittens? If so, perhaps you’d be interested in volunteering to work with them. Another Chance Animal Rescue could really use some help mornings between 9 and 11. They are an all-volunteer organization and would love to add some additional helpers to their crew! If interested, call 490-2855 for more info.
