Smitty’s Cinema will be showing a special screening of the 2014 Ukrainian film The Guide through March 30. In this movie, American boy Peter and blind minstrel Ivan are thrown together by fate amidst the turbulent mid-1930s Soviet Ukraine. A film about the Russian atrocities committed on Ukrainians in the 1930s that are very similar to what is going on today. Proceeds from ticket sales to this movie will be donated to Ukraine Relief Fund. To donate directly visit www.standwithukrainethroughfilm.org. This movie is subtitled.

Springvale will soon have a new ice cream shop, right in the heart of the Village, when Bowdini’s Ice Cream opens in the former Key Bank Building (with a drive through window!) in May. Bowdini’s is a subsidiary of Pilot’s Cove Café.

Nasson Youth Theater has announced their Summer Camp for kids 8-18. There will be two sessions, weekday afternoons from July 11-22 and weekday mornings from August 1-12. The cost is $150 per session. The Sanford-Springvale YMCA has added some new items for use in the game room. The game room features a pool table, air hockey, ping pong, shuffleboard table, foosball and more! Books ReVisited is celebrating Easter Sunday (April 17) by reducing prices on religious and inspirational books by half price. The store, located at 882 Main St., also is raffling an adorable bunny, which comes with a book and a CD. Tickets are just 50 cents apiece, or three for a dollar. The bookstore is also accepting donations of books in good condition. Please note that they can’t accept text books, encyclopedias, magazines or records. If you have donations, please call ahead – 207-490-1320 – in order to make drop-off arrangements. The store, which is staffed entirely by volunteers, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM. All proceeds go to York County Shelter Programs.

Southern Rail Bluegrass will be returning to the Sanford-Springvale Historical Museum for a show on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults age 18+, children admitted free. Their performances are high-energy exuberant fun, with riveting harmonies and irrepressible humor. This promises to be another exciting evening with sparkling banjo, guitar, mandolin and bass. Southern Rail will be celebrating the recent induction of two of its members into the Southern New England Bluegrass Hall of Fame.  Tickets may be reserved by e-mailing heastman@metrocast.net. Proof of vaccination or negative test result within the previous 72 hours required for entry, and face masks must be worn.

Save the date for the Annual Spring Fair at St. Ignatius Gym to benefit St. Thomas School. It will be held Sunday, May 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a large selection of yard sale items, children’s crafts, special prizes, jewelry table, themed baskets to raffle, food, major raffles, plant table, the awesome penny auction table and more!
