News Notes: March 24, 2022

Building Trades students at Sanford Regional Technical Center are working on framing projects with different roof styles. Roof styles consist of gable, hip, and valley roof framing. The project structures are 4’X8′ with a 3’X2′ bump out. They are the perfect size for a  great chicken coop, dog house or play house and are for sale for $100. On March 23, 2022, the Sanford Police Department’s Middle School Resource Officer took a report of a Gross Sexual Assault which occurred on March 22 around 3:30 p.m., on the public trail system which runs from the YMCA skate park to Spartan Drive. The victim, a 13 year old male, reported encountering individuals on the path who assaulted him. SPD is encouraging people using the trail system to be aware of their surroundings, walk in groups, and report any suspicious behavior to the police department by calling 207-324-3644 Ext 1.  You can leave an anonymous tip by calling 324-9170, Ext 4.  The police will have an increased presence in the area.

The Charter Review Committee had its first meeting on March 23. Future meetings will be held every other Monday, beginning March 28, from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled to include review of Articles I-IV of the City Charter, which include Grant of Powers to the City, City Council, Mayor and City Manager. The April 11 and 25 meetings will cover Articles V-VII, which include the Board of Education, the Budget and Budget Validation. Meetings are held in person in the City Hall Council Chambers, and the public may attend live or by Zoom. Meetings are also streamed on WSSR-TV’s YouTube channel as well as Town Hall Streams. There is opportunity for public input at each meeting. The City Charter is available on the City’s website at sanfordmaine.org/towncharter.

The King of New England comedy, Bob Marley, is coming to Springvale for two performances at the Nasson Little Theatre on April 14! Marley has dozens of national TV appearances as well as movie credits on his resume. Get your tickets here before they sell out!

Rolling Thunder is registering teams now for its 12th Annual Bowl-a-Thon for Veterans on April 30 at Bowl-a-Rama. All proceeds will benefit local veterans and their families. Teams can bowl for 1-6 hours. Contact Bonnie at 490-1858 for more information.
