The Sanford Backpack Program has a full summer of food distributions planned! Each Thursday from June 10 through September 2, they will be at one of the apartment complexes in town, either Meadow Creek, Timber Ridge or Eastside Acres. They will also be at Breary Farms and the Willard School every Thursday. These events are open to all Sanford/Springvale residents, no signup required and no questions asked. Pick up your box from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. See the full distribution schedule here: https://www.sanford.org/article/469032.
The Sanford Vaccine Clinic is open limited hours in the month of June. Walk-in appointments are available for ages 12 and over on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday mornings 8:00 to noon. If those times don’t suit your schedule, you can also walk-in or schedule an appointment at Nasson Health Care in Springvale. They have all three vaccines available. Call 490-6900 for more information or to schedule. If you’re unable to leave your home and don’t have a way to get to a vaccine site, you don’t have to be left out. Northern Light Health and Maine’s Area Agency on Aging can help bring the COVID vaccine to you. Call (888) 445-4111 or click here to see if you can get a vaccine delivered to you and administered by a licensed professional.
As of June 1, 68% of Sanford and Springvale residents have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation newsletter has a great article about Gracie, the world-class Steinway concert grand piano at the Sanford Performing Arts Center, and Dr. Morton Gold, who helped bring her to Sanford two years ago. Read it here.
Even though the weather’s warming up, don’t forget to plan for next winter. Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) applications are still being taken through York County Community Action for the 2021 season. The last day to apply for this season is July 15, 2021. Homeowners and renters are eligible for HEAP benefits. Call 459-2959. to apply by phone—it’s that easy! They also have a Heat Pump Program. Heat pumps can be used all year! They perform the same functions as five different appliances: heaters, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, ceiling fans, and room air filters.
Call 206-1261 to apply for the Heat Pump Program.
Operation Ray of Light is raffling off a Schwinn racing bike. The tickets are $10 per ticket and the drawing will be on July 4th. Tickets can be purchased at their office, 909 Main St., second floor (above Garnsey Brothers Insurance) on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They also accept Venmo.
