York County Community Action Corp.’s Transportation program is pleased to announce that new bus stop signs are being installed along bus routes in and around Sanford. The Transportation program has been working with the City of Sanford on this project for several months. City personnel are installing the signs on city-owned property; YCCAC will partner with businesses at our other stops to have the signs put up by YCCAC Facility staff.
The Sanford Police Association’s charity softball game against the New England Celebrity All-Stars will be held September 17 at Goodall Park. Over the next few weeks, their fundraising partner NECP will be calling citizens and businesses for donations. All money donated is used to fund and assist various charities in Sanford/Springvale. Sanford Senior Cycling will take place on August 12 and September 9 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Join Northeast Passage (nepassage.org) on the trails at the Sanford-Springvale YMCA. They have a variety of cycles, trikes, and tandem bikes to suit all skill and comfort levels (helmets, too), and their cycling experts will help everyone enjoy an active, casual, social ride with fellow seniors! To register for your preferred date, call Northeast Passage (603-862-0070) or stop in at Trafton Senior Center or the Welcome Desk at the Y. The program is funded by a grant from Kennebunk Savings Bank.
Got some spare time? Some great organizations in Sanford could use your help! The Stuff the Bus school supply drive will be at Walmart July 30th, and August 6th, 12th and 20th collecting donations. Waban’s 11th Annual Golf Tournament is right around the corner. On Friday, September 30th, the tournament will raise money to support access to the community and activities which promote the health, fitness and well-being of Waban’s adult members. Single players and teams of four can sign up to play here.
The Sanford Springvale Basketball Association is gearing up for the 2022-23 season. Although it doesn’t start until November, they are asking parents of players in grades Pre-K to 12 to sign up early, to help them plan the best season ever.
