The 6th Annual Springvale Farm Walk, happening Sunday, July 25, will give you an opportunity to visit some places and farms you might not normally get to see. Mousam Way’s American Chestnut Plantation is one of them. Last week, volunteers from the Sanford/Springvale Mousam Way Land Trust (pictured above) spent the morning clearing the area around the American Chestnut Plantation under the expert guidance of Dr. Bud Johnston, so that everyone who participates in the Farm Walk will get to see these amazing trees. Start the day with a farm fresh breakfast from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at McDougal Orchards and don’t forget to visit the silent auction featuring paintings by local artists of scenes from Springvale’s working farms, plus gift certificates to local businesses – all proceeds will benefit the Sanford Community Forest.
You’re invited to a free Community Fitness Party! On Wednesday, July 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., instructors from the Sanford-Springvale YMCA will lead Zumba, ’80s and ’90s fitness dance moves, kickboxing and more. It’s all happening at the Runaway at Pilot’s Cove Café on Airport Rd. The Runaway will open at 8:00 for participants’ enjoyment. 20% of food and beverage proceeds will be donated to the Y’s Scholarship fund. Come celebrate our health, ourselves and renewed positive energy!
FineLine Pavement Striping Company will begin centerline and edge line striping all City streets on Thursday, July 22 at 8:00 p.m. They will be striping for approximately 3 days (weather permitting). Please be aware of striping equipment, follow trucks and the crews working in the roadways. PLEASE WATCH FOR WET PAINT. Please proceed with caution in areas where crews are working. Should you have any questions, comments and/or concerns, contact the Department of Public Works at 324-9135.
The Children’s Chorus of Sanford will be returning this fall with rehearsals on Friday afternoons. Look for details and registration information in August.
